WWI Centennial Conference hosted by VBMA

May 26, 2018 - May 27, 2018

World War I raged through Europe from 1914 to 1918.  The United States was carefully neutral, until April 6, 1917, when it joined Great Britain and the Allied Powers, declaring war against Germany and later its allies, the Central Powers.

United States troops arrived in Europe on June 26, 1917, and entered combat in October.  The first U. S. soldiers died on November 2, 1917. Fighting continued, until the Armistice was signed the next year, on November 11, 1918.  In that time, the United States military suffered over 300,000 casualties, and the world was changed forever.  This conference commemorates these changes, both overseas and at home, and the accomplishments, and sacrifices of all participants.
